Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service Successfully Hosts Green Legacy Tree-Planting Program The Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service (EPOS) successfully organized a nationwide Green Legacy Initiative tree-planting program in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, its affiliated institutions, representatives of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, the Sheger City Administration, and Gefersa Guje Sub-City. In her remarks, H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, stated that the national campaign to plant 800 million tree seedlings is a remarkable movement that symbolizes planting hope, protecting lives, and promoting sustainable development. She noted that the health sector alone plans to plant more than 250,000 seedlings during this rainy season and called upon all health professionals and leaders to actively contribute to this important national initiative. Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of Health, emphasized that the Green Legacy Initiative and public health are inseparable. He explained that tree planting plays a vital role in improving air quality, ensuring food security, protecting water resources, and promoting community health. He also stressed the importance of conserving the Gefersa watershed, one of Addis Ababa's primary water sources, and expressed his appreciation to EPOS for organizing the event. Delivering the opening remarks, Dr. Tariku Tadesse, Chief Executive Officer of EPOS, announced that more than 30,000 tree seedlings were planted as part of the national 800 million tree-planting campaign. He highlighted that, beyond providing rehabilitation services, EPOS is actively engaged in various volunteer and community service initiatives. He further noted that environmental conservation is essential for ensuring sustainable development and safeguarding the country's natural resources. Speaking at the event, Dr. Teshome Adugna, Mayor of Sheger City and Deputy President of Oromia Regional State, presented the city's ongoing eco-tourism and green development initiatives and expressed his appreciation to EPOS for coordinating the successful tree-planting program. As part of its commitment to social responsibility, EPOS also donated educational materials to 200 students from Gefersa Guje and Burayu Sub-Cities, reaffirming its dedication to supporting education and empowering future generations. At the conclusion of the program, Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba, State Ministers, representatives of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, and other invited guests visited the National Integrated Rehabilitation Center currently under construction by EPOS.
